This project aims to portray the hidden narratives of the post-soviet landscape in the Czech Republic. The video collages and projections in the digital gallery revolve around a cultural shift around the revolution of 1989 and explore changes in culture, national identity, decay and erased history. My hometown, as well as my family home in the eastern part of the country, provided a case study for this project. The contrast between these two locations; one fairly western and industrial and a village which almost seems to be stuck in time, allowed a sort of time travel to occur through physical movement.
What does it mean to learn a new culture, and how is that reflected in our most simple, everyday habits?
I explored this through a variety of media, using collage as a central process, bringing that into the textile and video outcomes as well.
